MEDICAL TRAINING AT THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE

The duration of training in medicine is six years.

It involves training in preclinical and clinical disciplines, as well as a one-year clinical rotation.

The general and special medical disciplines are taught in their logical consequence and interrelation.

The training process is in accordance with the modern requirements for higher medical education. Experienced lecturers and modern infrastructure are prerequisites for excellent theoretical training and development of practical skills of physicians graduating from Medical University Plovdiv.

After passing the state examinations the students obtain Master’s degree and a professional qualification of Physicians.

Key Learning Outcomes

After finishing the course, the students must be able to:
• Understand the essence of the discipline General Medicine, the position, role and functions of the General practitioner in the health care system
• Obtain skills for proper communication with the patient in the context of General Practice
• Obtain the necessary skills and be able to perform basic activities in the General Practice – preventive activities in different age groups
• Know the modern diagnostic and therapeutic approach
• Develop their training needs and self-development

Admission

1. Completed, printed and signed Application Form 2022.

2. Copy of the Diploma of completed secondary (high) school education and an academic transcript indicating the disciplines studied (Biology and Chemistry) and the marks received.

3. Original document issued by a competent authority certifying the applicant’s right to apply and continue their education in higher schools/universities in the country of origin of the secondary (high) school they have attended.

4. Health certificate (original) issued not earlier than one month prior to applying.

5. Copy of the valid ID/International passport certifying the citizenship or two documents certifying the citizenship – for the candidates with dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian.

6. Four recent colour photos 4/5 cm.

The documents listed above (p. 2, 3, 4) must be legalized (Apostille-affixed – see http://www.hcch.net or www.apostilleinfo.com, translated in Bulgarian and verified according to the official state procedures. Translation can be done either in the country of residence, but it must be certified by the Consular section of the Bulgarian Embassy, or by a Bulgarian translation agency which must certify it at Bulgarian notary office. Note: All authentications (Apostilles and seals) must be original and not copies.

Application documents of the interested prospective students are submitted from 01 March – 02 September 2022:

• Personally to the Foreign Student Admission Office of Medical University – Plovdiv;

• By an authorized by the applicant person or company (in this case power of attorney (legalized, translated in Bulgarian and verified) will be required;

Visa Requirements

  • Non-EU and non-EEA citizens must have Visa type D for residing for study at the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria.
  • The University sends the original set and one copy set to the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science.
  • In case the application documents are approved the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science issues Admittance Certificate to the applicants within a month and sends it to the University.
  • The applicants apply for visa at the Bulgarian Embassy in their countries presenting the Certificate.

Living Costs & Part-time work

Living Costs:

  • A modern private accommodation – 300-350 EUR (Two-bed apartment)
  • Shared private accommodation 150 EUR
  • Utility bills – 60 EUR
  • Transport – 30 EUR student card per month
  • Food – 200 EUR per month
  • Phone – 20 EUR per month
  • Taxi – 10-20 lv per ride within the city

As a foreign student in Bulgaria, you are eligible to work part-time alongside your studies. However, students from countries outside of the EU require a work permit in order to work and earn money in Bulgaria. … Students can work part-time but only for a maximum of 20 hours a week.

Scholarship

Scholarships’ aim is to support young people with capabilities to distinguish and contribute to the development and social progress.

The requirements of awarding a scholarship are the following: 

  •  Paid tuition fee for their semester on timе
  •  The student must have taken all the exams according to the curriculum from the beginning of his/her studies up to the moment;
  • Average score – minimum 5,50 from the previous academic year;
